AU SABLE FORKS - William Horace Smith died in Au Sable Forks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Bailey Saturday following a long illness with heart trouble. He had lived here the past three years.
Mr. Smith was born at Lewis on January 3, 1871, and he lived in that village until 1899 when he went to make his residence in New York City. He was appointed to the police force there in 1895 where he served until his retirement in 1921. In 1932 he returned to Lewis to make his residence and had lived in Au Sable Forks the past three years.
Mr. Smith is survived by is wife, two daughters, Mrs. Henry Burlow of Lewis and Miss Anna Smith of Ray Brook, by one son, William Smith of Staten Island, by two sisters, Mrs. Frances Johnson and Mrs. Inez Thrall of Lewis, by one brother Friend Smith also of Lewis.
The body was taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. Johnson, in Lewis where the funeral was held Monday afternoon, the Reverend Charles Scheld of Elizabethtown officiating.
