George was the husband of Sarah Abbie Hoitt, nee Place, father to Sarah "Sadie" Purington, nee Hoitt, grandfather to Everett Winfield Purington, and great grandfather to me, Kirk Everett Purington
One of the jobs George had was as a Bootblack. He had a stand at the train station in Dover where he attened many people. "A dime for a shine". Through this endever he met such famous people as Generals William T. Sherman, Phil Sheridan, and Benjamin Butler, as well as Heavy Weight Champion John L. Sullvan, P.T. Barnum and Buffalo Bill. He did this trade for 62 years.
