Information contained in his death certificate is inaccurate. He was born January 1, 1879 near Gamaliel, in a farm house on Sugar Creek in Monroe County Kentucky. He was the oldest of six children, one of which (a twin) died at birth. His parents were Rosaline (nee Appollas) and Elzy W. Fults. His birth place was about two miles from Tompkinsville, the county seat of Monroe County, KY, near the village of Flippin.

When he was 18 months old, his parents moved to Collin County, Texas and located on the east fork of the Trinity River, where they lived until his mother passed away on February 19, 1888. Audy was sent back to live with his paternal grandparents for a period of time, and upon his return to Texas discovered that his father had remarried.

Audy was a mail carrier by occupation. He was known to write his thoughts down on scraps of paper, which he passed down to daughter Jennora Fults Davis. Jennora passed those down to her son Bob, and in 1978 Bob wrote a booklet entitled, "The Life, Wit and Wisdom of A.B. Fults".

Audy and Sophie were parents to eight children: 6 girls and two boys. The children were:
