The sudden and unexpected death last Friday of F. A. Pautz, was a great shock to our community in which he has lived for nearly forty years. He was a highly esteemed citizen who took an active interest in public matters and showed fine ability in the public offices he held at various time. He served as village assessor for twenty-three years, and was for many years, and at the time of his death, an active and conscientious member of the Brillion Fire Department. He was also a trustee of the Evangelical Friedens congregation. He was a carpenter by trade, associated practically during all his years here with L. A. Wordell, who feels deeply the untimely departure of his old friend. While working at the Caflisch farmstead last Friday he complained of feeling ill and requested to be brought home to this city. He rapidly grew worse and medical aid was summoned at once, but death by heart failure followed the same day.

The deceased was born at Manitowoc in 1863. He received a good common school education and soon after leaving school he went into the teaching profession and taught for four years and working at the carpenter trade during his spare time. He then discontinued teaching and in 1889 was united in marriage to Miss Agnes Caflisch who now survives him.

Besides the widow he is survived by three sons and three daughters. The sons are Elmer of Hilbert, Raymond of Sheboygan and Erald at home. The daughters are Mrs. Clara Kanter of Potter, Lorraine Pautz, Milwaukee and Leona at home. There is one brother, Aug. Krieser of Milwaukee and six sisters, Mrs. John Kruell, Milwaukee, Mrs. F. Horn, Brillion, Mrs. Thos, Rikell, Ripon, Mrs. Gust Lietz, Milwaukee, Mrs. Thos. Park, Rochester, Ind., Mrs. Ed. Osmussen, Livingston, Wis.

The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, services being conducted at the Evangelical Friedens church, Rev. P. Kasper officiating.
