Kenton was the son of Herman Schoen and Leona Kenton Sauer Joute. While attending Shawnee High School in Louisville he met Retta J. Jeffers and about 1942 they were married. The couple had four children: Retta, Lisa, Kenton and Todd. He retired from the Container Corporation of America (Smurfit). Kenton died at the age of 61.
