LEWIS - Hazel May Compton, 81, died June 15, 2000, at Muskogee Hospital, Muskogee, Okla.
She was born Nov. 22, 1918, at Kinsley, the daughter of Edgar V. and Cora M. Sater Stevens.
A resident of Jay, Okla., for the past 15 months, moving from Lewis, she was a homemaker and retired from Larned State Hospital.
She belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Kinsley.
On Jan. 26, 1938, she married Dick Sutton in Edwards County. He died in 1972. On Nov. 14, 1972, she married Chester R. Compton at Woodward, Okla. He survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Patsy Mullin, Jay, Okla.; a brother, Earl Stevens, Dodge City; a sister, Fran Burkhart, Kinsley; nine grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Sutton; a daughter, Eileen Preston; three brothers; a sister; and three grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Lewis Christian Church, with the Rev. Keith Shrum presiding. Larrison Mortuary, Pratt, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Kinsley.
Memorials may be sent to the VFW Auxiliary, the American Heart Association or to Southwind Hospice, all in care of the mortuary.
