Bertha Abelin, an Oregon City housewife with 79 living descendants, died Tuesday in a Portland hospital. She was 99.
Born in Germany, Mrs. Abelin moved to Oregon approximately 50 years ago and resided at McKenzie Bridge until coming to the Portland area 15 years ago.
She is survived by two sons, Richard, of Springfield, and Alfred, of Bozeman, Mont.; five daughters, Annette Hunkins, Beaverton; Lillian A. Smith, Oregon City; Ruth DeWitt, Springfield; Marie Hall, Hemet, Calif., and Verna Hughes, Camas, Wash.; 17 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel at Riverview Cemetery, where burial will follow.
