SWEET, Burpee Seymour Jr. "Bert" - With great sadness we announce the death of Bert Sweet, local bricklayer and family man. After a heroic effort to beat heart disease and cancer, Bert passed away in QEII, Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, early Monday morning, February 24, 2003, at the age of 78. Serving his country, he was a veteran of the Second World War. He was a son of the late Burpee Seymour Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Fortune) (Avonport).

He is survived by his wife, Madge (Faulkner), Halifax; only child, Carroll (Les) Turner, Covey Lake; grandson, Lester (Kari) Turner, Dartmouth; granddaughter, Tina (Jerry) Chaulk, Dartmouth; great-grandchildren, Troy, Nicholas, Amber and Todd Turner, Dartmouth; Mary-Elizabeth and Ashley Chaulk, Dartmouth; sister, Helen (Harry Sr.) Rogers, Aylesford Lake; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Albert, Medford, Robert, William, Russel and Eddie; sisters, Orena, Mary and Lillian in infancy; great-grandson, Keith in infancy.

Bert was a member in good standing of the International Bricklayers Union for over 57 years. He worked in the United States and throughout Canada as a mason until his health no longer allowed him to continue his passion for brick in 2000. A loving and compassionate family man, he will be sadly missed by all those who knew him. Visitation was 7-9 p.m. Tuesday with funeral service 11 a.m. today, both in Atlantic Funeral Home, Dartmouth. All are welcome to join in the celebration of his successful life. Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens with a reception to follow at the funeral home.
