Verne J. Thomas, 84, of 221 S. Geneva St., died Thursday, Aug. 25, 1977, in Tompkins County Hospital. A former trainman for the Lehigh Valley Railroad who had been employed there for 51 years prior to his retirement in 1963. Mr. Thomas was also a member of Senior Citizen Organization in Ithaca, Waverly and Athens and Sayre, PA. He is survived by his wife, Florence Dean Thomas; a son, Gene Thomas of Sayre, PA; a daughter, Mrs. Roger {Theresa} Armstrong of Newfield; two stepsons, William Dean of Slaterville and Walter Dean of New Port Richey, FL; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Myra Abbey of Slaterville and Mrs. Cora Saunders of Ithaca; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Wagner Funeral Home, with the Rev. G. Eugene Durham officiating. Burial will be in Hayts Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
