Sergeant Kreider was a member of Company I, 3rd Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy near Hoengsong, South Korea on February 12, 1951. He was held at "Mining Camp" and died on August 31, 1951 of starvation and lack of medical treatment. Sergeant Kreider was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.

His military records list his remains as not found so this appears to be a memorial marker for him. He is not actually buried here. His remains are sadly most likely in an unmarked grave somewhere in Korea.
