His first marriage was to Elizabeth A. and with her had several children, including Helen, William, Frederick Bessie, Gaylord and Estelle. Elizabeth she died before 1900 and Edwin remarried on June 12, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois to June Warder.
During the Civil War, Edwin was in the Illinois Chicago Mercantile Light Artillery Battery. He enlisted August 29, 1862, was promoted to Full Corporal, and was mustered out at Chicago on July 10, 1865.
