From the Salt Lake Tribune, August 9, 2013:

Dad was born and raised in Midvale, Utah to Charles and Amelia Doty. He spent most of his childhood living on his grandparent's farm in Midvale. He attended area schools and the LDS church there.

At age 16, during the depression, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps to help support the family. On January 21, he was drafted into the Army serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, also in the European African Theater. He was honorably discharged on October 11, 1945. Dad was a very proud World War II veteran.

He married Mary Elva Bertoch September 27, 1946. They started their life together in Tooele, Utah when Dad was hired at Tooele Army Depot where he later retired. Dad and Mom where married 64 years.

Dad was very involved with family and community activities, a Scout Master while his boys were active, a member of the American Legion Post 38 from Magna, Utah, Adjutant in 1971.

He spent many years traveling with the National Campers and Hikers Assoc., and also found time to learn to Square Dance. No matter where Dad lived he always had a large vegetable garden, he liked getting his hands dirty. Dad had a full and active life he was loved and respected by all. He will be missed.

Services will be held Saturday, August 10th at Wasatch Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive Salt Lake City, Utah. Visitation at 2:00 p.m. followed by a graveside service at 3:00 p.m.
