Clifton Earl Downey was born in raised outside York, Nebraska on the family farm. Before his marriage his family built a home for him and his new bride on the farm. Mr. Downey was favorably known and viewed as a practical farmer of the county.
In 1954 he and Alma sold the farm and moved to Grand Island, Nebraska; he had been in poor health for about eight years prior to his death.
He was preceded in death by an infant son and was survived by his wife, a schoolteacher in Grand Island and two children, Mrs. Charlotte Anderson of Grand Island and Robert Downey of Lincoln, Nebraska.
