Katie was the daughter of John Williams and Dedida Tharp. About 1846, her family moved from Fayette Co, IN to Fulton Co, IL then settled in Knox Co, IL near Monterey.

On 11 Nov 1847, Katie married George Upson in Knox Co, IL. They settled in Canton, where George died in 1905 and Katie in 1913.
