LaPorte--Harry W. Gregory, 84, LaPorte died at 6:13 p.m. (EST) Tuesday (Dec. 9, 2003) at St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend.
The funeral will at 1 p.m. Friday at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, with Dr. Howard Abbott officiating. Burial will be in Patton Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today with a Masonic Memorial service at 7:30 p.m. today, and from noon until the services Friday at the funeral home.
He was born March 13, 1919 in Rugby, Ind., to Delby and Lena (Sumpter) Gregory. On Aug. 5, 1943, in LaPorte, he married Viola Schmidt, who survives.
Survivors also include two daughters, Harriet Bennitt and Janet (Don) Banks, both of LaPorte; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
One brother, Glenn Gregory, also preceded Mr. Gregory in death.
Mr. Gregory worked at Whirlpool, retiring in 1982. He then worked at the LaPorte Professional Building with his wife for 10 years. Mr. Gregory was a member of the LaPorte First Baptist Church. He was a Quarter Master of the Maple City Cadets, a 50-year member of the American Legion, a member of the Senior Bowling League and of the LaPorte Travel and Camera Club, Worshipful Master of Excelsior Lodge 41 F&AM and 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite of South Bend. Mr. Gregory was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II.
