Mr. Calloway was born in Malone, FL to the late Oscar and Ella Calloway. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Angus Calloway and Oscar Calloway, and his sister Eloise Pleen. Mr. Calloway retired from the U.S. Army in 1972 after serving in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. He then served as assistant commissary officer at Fort Benning, Georgia until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Calloway was a 32nd degree Mason, having served as Past Master of the Fort Benning Lodge in 1963. He was a member of the Centerville and Wellston Senior Citizen Groups, AARP and a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Columbus, GA. Survivors include his wife Mae Vickery Calloway of Warner Robins, daughters Frances (David) Hodge of Warner Robins, and Susan (Steven) Wells of Reidsville, NC, sister Omagene Holland of Columbus, GA, grandchildren Andrea Hodge of Warner Robins, Christopher (Betsy) George of Eden, NC and Angel (Wayne) Johnson of Durham, NC and five great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mr. Calloways memory be made to the Alzheimers Association, Central Georgia Chapter, 301 Mulberry Street, Suite 201, Macon, GA 31201 or to the charity of your choice. Heritage Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
