Anna J. Smith, Abingdon Chapel age 76 of Abingdon, died at 4:10 am Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born on February 16, 1937 in Abingdon, the daughter of Angelo "Andy" and Mary (Lasagna) Dimatteo. She married Ray Smith at the All Souls Catholic Church in Abingdon. They later divorced.
Anna is survived by three sons, Gene, Kevin and Rod all of Abingdon; two daughters, Vickey (and Greg) Simpson of Ash Grove, Missouri and Kimberly (and Jeffery Cunningham) Brand of Willard, Missouri; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and her best friend, Karen Quinn of Abingdon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Gene, a daughter Peggy Aplin, and a granddaughter Charity Graves.
She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1955 and she lived in Abingdon most of her life. She worked at Maytag in Galesburg for 31½ years, retiring in 1996. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon. She enjoyed crocheting and taking care of her family.
As she requested, cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
