Father: George Baber
Mother: Mary Maxey

Hiram Baber married a daughter of Jesse Boone. He was sheriff of St. Charles county one term, and was a reckless, fun-loving sort of a man. He built a brick residence in St. Charles, and carved over the door, in large letters, "Root Hog, or Die."

He moved from St. Charles to Jefferson City and became one of the leading men of the State. He made a great deal of money, and stpent it as freely as he made it. He would often, in braggadocio, light his pipe with bank bills, to show how easily he could make money and how little he cared for it.
