She was the second wife of John Patton Grant whom she is buried beside.

For researchers to be aware, there are two Georgia Ann Woffords born in Georgia about at the same time. Pay attention to the race of the person listed on records. One is The daughter of Allen/Allin/Alin Wofford and wife Pathenia or Thinner. This is a family whose race is listed as "black" on the census. This is not the same Georgia Ann Wofford who married John Patton Grant who is listed as "white" on all of the census records.

That being said, this grave memorial is for Georgia Ann "Georgeann" Wofford Grant.

She was born in Georgia, the daughter of Mr. Wofford and Jane E. Haislip. She had a full sibling, a sister, Juliet Wofford, who married William Isaac Ledford.

Her mother later married John Q Adams. She had half siblings, John Henry Adams (married Albia Jane Simonds) and a sister Ida C Adams (married Charles Joshua Simonds)

On records sometimes there is confusion about Georgeann's maiden name being Adams, it could be because her Mom's 2nd husband was an Adams. For sure Georgeann's maiden name was Wofford though, that was her report from her Granddaughers who told me, ML, in the early 1980's. They outlined all of her names for me or I would have never figured her out!

These are her mother's (Jane E. Haislip Wofford Adams) confirmed children including herself, the 3rd is her full sister and the First one and last two are half siblings:

Mahala "Halie" Hayes Dills (1861-1929)

Georgia Ann Wofford Grant (1865 - 1947)

Julet (Juliet) Wofford Ledford (1866 - 1948)

Ida C Adams Simonds (1872 - 1918)

John Henry Adams (1874 - 1960)

Note, there is one more older girl listed on the 1880 Federal Census with the family in Swain County: Mahala Hays, age 19 born abt. 1861 in Georgia, farm laborer, daughter. Parents both born in SC. It is not confirmed she is actually Jane's daughter or perhaps a step-daughter or other relation or not-relative. Georgeann's granddaughters, when asked about her, said she left and was with her dad later. So more research is needed there.

Georgeann was married 2 times for sure (Quilliams, Grant) and possibly 3 though so far I cannot find a record to her marrying Mart Tabor, Sr..

She married George Quilliams on January 13, 1880, by Reverand J.M. Smiley in the home of John Freeman in Bryson City, North Carolina.

By 1900 she has married John Patton Grant. 1900 US Census shows two Williams children: Son John M Williams and daughter Callie Williams. It is known that George Quilliams was not actually the father of these two children but they are listed as "Williams" on the census. (Their death certificates lists their birth fathers).

Callie's marriage record has Williams as maiden name. Callie's death cert. lists father as General Kirkland but she is on other records with surname of Williams. she married William Judson "Judd" Lindsay. Note, Georgeann's granddaughters told me (M:fgff) their Grandma's husband was Quilliams and later descendants changed the name to Williams.

John M Williams is the son listed on the census, however, some have said his father was really Mart Tabor. This would make sense as this son is on later records as John Martin Tabor (b.16 APR 1882, married Amanda Jane Dills Morgan, d. 8 SEP 1957). He was also called Mart later and took on the name Tabor. His tombstone has the name Tabor, not Q/Williams.

(Now this may confuse you but this John Martin "Mart" (Williams) Tabor was called Mart on the 1910 Census and his wife Amanda's son from previous marriage was Clyde Jesse Morgan, listed as 8 years old, STEPSON. Later Clyde Jesse Morgan took on the last name of his stepfather. He's on later census as Clyde Tabor and that's on his headstone at Euchella Cemetery).

It is not known if Georgeann was married to Mart Tabor (1) and it is believed she was not married to "General" William Kirkland as he had his own family at the time Callie Louvergie Kirkland/Williams was born.

Georgeann Wofford Quilliams/Williams was married on January 30, 1890 in Towns County, GA, to a widower, John Patton Grant, the son of Wilkey Ichabod Grant and Mary Ann Totherow Grant. They made their home on Silvermine on what is now known as Taylor Road), in the Nantahala Twp. of Swain County, NC (postal address was Wesser, NC). She died there in 1947 and was buried in Grant Family Cemetery which is at the end of Taylor Road.
