James G. Amos was born 7 October 1845 in New York and was baptized 21 December 1845, #641 at Tappan Reformed Church, Tappan, New York. He was a talented woodcarver and made walking sticks, and created small baskets and animals from peach pits that were often made into key fobs. James married (1) Jane Ann "Jennie" Van Wart on 8 August 1863, marriage #286, Tappan Reformed Church Records. Jane was the daughter of Isaac Van Wart and Maria Duryea, born 27 December 1845 at Harrington, New Jersey. Jane died suddenly at the age of 34, 13 November 1880 at Nyack, New York. She is buried in the Tappan Reformed Church Cemetery, next to her youngest daughter and James' parents. No headstone remains for this grave.
James married (2) Frances Maria Bell, 5 June 1881. She was born 2 September 1855 in Piermont, New York, the daughter of William Henry Bell and Sarah E. Scott. Frances died 11 August 1882 and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Nyack, New York.
James married (3) widow Louisa Wehmeyer Schultz 28 July 1883 in New York City, She was born in Germany, December of 1845, the daughter of Angus Wehmeyer and Willimen Strattioner. Louisa died in 1925and is buried in the Old Tappan Cemetery (also known as Eckerson Farm Cemetery) Old Tappan, New Jersey. James died 18 January 1938 in Valhalla, New York, at the age of 92. He was survived by three daughters, nine grandchildren, and twenty five great grandchildren. He is buried in Sparta Cemetery, Ossining, New York. There is no headstone.
