[much about his Republican politics]. He met wife on the battlefields of Germany in WWII. He was a tank commander and she drove a truck for the American Red Cross. Two weeks after the end of the war in Europe, they were married in Germany in 1945. He grew up in Vermont. In 1954 they moved to Omaha and bought US Check Book Co. Visitation will be on Sunday at Heafey-Heafey-Hoffmann-Dwarak-Cutler West Center Chapel. Services on Monday at Dundee Presbyterian Church. Private burial will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with full military honors. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Anne Pratt of Omaha, Mary Bequette of Kennard and Lucia of Colorado Springs, CO; son Ed Batchelder of Omaha; a brother Stephen of San Antonio, TX and a sister, Lucia Davis of Pike, NH; and 11 grandchildren.
