Alonzo Murphy, 65, former resident of Genesee, passed away Tuesday morning at his home in Clarkston, WA. He had been working in the yard when death came suddenly. For several years he had been troubled with a weakened heart condition.
Funeral services were held in Clarkston Thursday morning from the Holy Family Catholic church, with the Rev. Fr. Leonard Boehm officiating. Burial was at Normal Hill cemetery.
The deceased was a resident of Genesee for over 25 years. For ten years he owned and operated a blacksmith shop at the location of Gus Ficken's present shop, later building and opening a garage which was later purchased by Morscheck Bros. when Mr. Murphy moved to Lewiston about 19 years ago. He had since lived in Lewiston with the exception of the two years when the family returned to Genesee to reside. Survivors are his widow and three children, Maurice, Rose and Fances Murphy.
Mr. Murphy was born Januray 25, 1874, at Cascade, Iowa.
Pallbearers were Fred Hampton, Wm. Cunningham, Art Linehan, Joe Hasfurther, John Shaffer and Glenn Sampson.
Assisting with the music at the service were Wayne and Elvon Hampton, the former singing "Ave Maria" as a solo, and "In The Garden" and "Whispering Hopes" vocal duets by Elvon and Wayne Hampton. They were accompanied by Mrs. Elvon Hampton.
Among those attending the services from Genesee were Miss Edna Driscoll, Mrs. Elizabeth Linehan, Mrs. Fred Hampton, and Mrs. Art Linehan.
