Body Discovered About Five Hours After Accident

An 18 year old youth from Reedsville was found dead in a wrecked automobile about 5:45 a.m. Sunday two miles south of this village at the junction of a town road and highway 32. Investigation revealed that the victim, Frederick P. Bloedorn of Rt. 1, Reedsville, died of a broken neck and crushing chest injuries. His death represented the second traffic fatality in two days after the county had gone almost two months without one. The county has had 19 traffic fatalities so far in 1960 compared with 10 for the
entire year of 1959.

Bloedorn was apparently killed around 12:30 a.m. when a dense ground fog covered the area but his body was not discovered until 5:45 by Orville Krueger, of Grimms, who was driving along the town road. Authorities were contacted by Milford Schultz, who lives near the intersection.

Clock Stops
Bloedorn's wrist watch, broken from its casing and found lying on the front floorboard, was stopped at 12:35 a.m. The car clock reportedly stopped running at 12:45 a.m.
County traffic police said Bloedorn was traveling east along on the town road and apparently failed to see Highway 32 or an arterial sign because of the fog. The car crossed the highway, jumped a ditch and struck a fence line before coming to a rest in an upright condition. Dr. Theodore Teitgen, county coroner, reported that Bloedorn was thrown against the steering wheel which was shoved up under his chin. It took officers using two crow bars to pry loose the front seat so that the body could be removed from the car.

Officers said that Bloedorn normally would have made a left turn at the insertion onto Highway 32 if he were headed toward his home as generally believed. The Bloedorn family lives two miles north of Reedsville on County Trunk GG.

Heavy Fog
Fog in the area was so thick at 6 a.m. that Dr. Teitgen was forced to travel as slow as 10 miles an hour to the scene of the accident. He indicated there would be no inquest.

Bloedorn was born Feb. 21, 1942, in the Town of Maple Grove, son of Hubert and Evelyne Bubold Bloedorn. He attended Lutheran parochial school and was graduated from Reedsville High School with the class of 1960. He starred as a football player and was a member of the Future Farmers of America Club. Prior to his death he was employed by Arien C. at Brillion.

Survivors include his parents; four sisters (names omitted for privacy); and his grandfather, Ernst A. Bubold of Brillion.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John and St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Reedsville. The Rev. John Wendland will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at Reedsville Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Tuesday until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when the casket will be moved to the church where the body will lie in state until time of service.
