Julia was the biological daughter of Nathan McComb, Jr. (1817-1879) and Julia Clapp (1826-c1853) however, Julia's mother Julia died shortly after Julia's birth and the child was "given" to friends of the family to raise - William H. and Caroline Randall. Whether there was a formal adoption we do not know but given the year - more than likely not.
Julia's biological full siblings were:
Martha J. (1844-1886), Mary E. (1845-1887), Noah (1845-1919), Levi (1850-1942)
After her mother died, Julia's father remarried to Minerva Cooley (1826-1866), then to Emily Jane Diamond (1834-1872) and lastly to Mary Kessler Shingler (1819-1900). Therefore, Julia had half-siblings as well from her father's various marriages:
Half-siblings (child of Nathan & Minerva Cooley):
Frank (1854- ), George H. (1857-1944), Harriet Elizabeth (1859-1937 and Irena (1862-1948)
Half-siblings (child of Nathan & Emily Jane Diamond):
Emma (1867- ) and Sylvester (1868- )
Exactly why Nathan McComb gave up his youngest daughter after his wife's death is not known - especially since he quickly remarried and had add'l children. This happened quite often back then - that the mother would die leaving young children and one or more of the children were "given" to family members or friends to raise. Sometimes the children were taken back by the father once he remarried but Nathan did not do this in the case of Julia.
Although we do not have the note, there apparently exists a handwritten note by a family member indicating that Julia was given to the Randall's to raise when she was just an infant.
Julia appears on the 1860 census living with the Randall's in Gilford, Tuscola County, Michigan; her last name is listed as Randall versus McComb. In 1870 they were living in Thetford Township, Genesee County, Michigan.
She married Silas C. Beebe (1842-1901) in about 1872 (cannot find their marriage record but would have married in Michigan - most likely in Genesee or Tuscola County). Julia and Silas had three children:
Jessie C. (c1877- ), Carl Herbert (c1889- ) and Eunice Claire (c1893- )
In 1880 the family were living in Pine, Montcalm Co., Michigan, but by 1900 they had moved to Ballard, King Co. Washington. Based on a city directory, Julia was living in Seatle, King Co., Washington where she was also living in 1910 (federal census) and 1915 (city directory) and again on the 1920 and 1930 censuses.
Julia's daughter, Jessie, was living in Los Angeles which is where Julia died.
