John Otho Beard, 94, of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away Friday, August 23, 2013 at The Manor in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Beard was born April 25, 1919, in Carrington, MO, to Louis and Elfia Way Beard.

On June 1, 1946, he married Caroline Chiles, and later married Betty L. Rooffener in Camdenton, MO, on March 27, 1965. Betty died in December of 1999.

Mr. Beard was a member of the Temple Baptist Church, served in the U.S. Marine Corp during WWII and had worked as a supervisor and chief switchman for Southwestern Bell before retiring. He enjoyed spending time with his family and church, and fishing and camping.

Survivors include his children; John C. Beard (June), of Eldon, MO, Cyd Beard and Holly Beard of Poplar Bluff, 4 grandchildren; Gina Campbell, Angeleic Huth, Yvette Cox, and Juillet Zumdome, and 10 great grandchildren.

His wife, parents, 2 brothers and 4 sisters preceded him in death.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at City Cemetery, with Pastor Steve Patterson officiating.
