George G. Lyons
George G. Lyons, 75, a lifetime resident of the City of Poughkeepsie, died Saturday, July 29, 2000 at the Baltimore Veterans Medical Center in Baltimore, Md. Mr. Lyons worked at IBM Poughkeepsie as a Senior Accountant for over 30 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Marys Roman Catholic Church, Poughkeepsie. Also, he was a member of the Poughkeepsie Seniors Softball League and the IBM Quarter Century Club. Mr. Lyons served in the United States Navy during World War II. Born in Walden on October 9, 1924, he was the son of Grant and Carrie Broas Lyons. He was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School and attended SUNY Oswego and graduated from Albany Business College. He was the beloved husband of Margaret Joan Hogan, whom he married on April 8, 1950 in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Poughkeepsie. She survives at home. He was the devoted father to Gary and Susanne Lyons, Briarcliff Manor; William and Maureen Lyons, Hopewell Junction; Catherine and Stephen Thomas, Unionvale; devoted grandfather to Matthew, Paul,and Andrew Lyons; Monica, Bridget, and Colleen Lyons; Gregg, Grant, and Caitlyn Thomas; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are 4-8 p.m., Aug. 1, at the William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Aug. 2, at St. Marys Roman Catholic Church, 235 Church St., Poughkeepsie. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Denis Cemetery, East Fishkill. Memorial donations may be made to St. Marys Roman Catholic church, 235 Church St., Poughkeepsie or Parkinson's Disease, 301 E. 17th Street, New York NY 10003.
