Carl was a basketball player in junior high and at Hydro High School, showed farm animals at the Hydro District Fairs. Carl Jr, along with his mother Lucille, created watercolor and oil paintings and won prizes for their artwork at the fair.

Only son of Mrs. Lucille (Arthurs) Hamons, the Mother of the Mother Road. Carl was survived by his parents, two sisters and four children.

Murdered by ex-wife, Yetta Jean Aragon on August 29, 1962 in Globe, Arizona. Carl Robert Hamons, Jr. was buried in Hydro, Oklahoma.
