Claiborne studied medicine at the University of Pa., 1822-23 & then under his brothr-in-law, Dr. Thomas Warrener White. He practiced in Pittsylvania County for a time and later in Halifax County.
His first wife was Harriet T. White
Her obit from the Lynchburg Virginian, June 9, 1828, p.3, col.5 reads:
BARKSDALE, MRS. HARRIETT T. died May 3, 1828, age 24 years, at "Locust Hill" in Halifax County. She was the wife of Dr. Claiborne Barksdale. She was survived by her husband and 3 children.
2nd wife was Sallie Whitlock. They married Dec 9, 1831
1838 Claiborne was a 1st Lt. 1st Regt of Calvalry, Virginia Militia.
