Russell Walters (1937 - 2013)

HOWE – Russell Lee Walters, 76, of Fort Worth died peacefully at his second home in Howe, Texas, Friday morning, Aug. 23, 2013. Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 27, in Mulberry Cemetery, northwest of Bonham, with Rev. Terry Reisner of St. Paul Catholic Church in Waxahachie officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman.

Mr. Walters was born May 5, 1937, in Manitowoc, Wis., to Alphonso Walters and Anna Knope Walters. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Manitowoc. Russell served his country proudly in the Korean conflict, as a radar technician for the United States Air Force. He later worked repair and maintenance for Southwestern Bell, which eventually became AT&T. After retirement, Russell thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his friends in the Sandy Creek Gun Club, the Aurora Gun Club and the Commanche Peak Black Powder Gun Club. He was a member of the Catholic church. In 2004, Russell married Nadine Underwood, in Sherman, and they divided their time between homes in Fort Worth and Howe.

Russell is survived by his wife, Nadine; his children, Steven Allen Walters, of Venus, and Darcy Taylor, of Arlington; stepchildren, Billy D. Roberts, of Howe, Gregory D. Roberts, of Whitesboro, and Tracy Rae Bartoo, of Desert; one sister, Geraldine Laktos, of Wisconsin; one granddaughter, Andrea Walters; 13 step-grandchildren and three step-greatgrandchildren. Russell was preceded in death by both his parents.
