Continental Congressman. Signer of the Articles of Confederation. Daniel was born on the Island of St. Christopher in the West Indies. He helped to establish the Masons in Philadelphia. He served as Brigadier General in the Pennsylvania state militia. Was with General Washington at Valley Forge. Established a lead mine and later built Fort Roberdeau, at his own expense to protect the mines. His son Isaac helped Pierre Charles L'Enfant to lay out the city of Washington, DC.
