SOLDIER'S RITES ON WEDNESDAY
Pfc Carl Ankney Taken by Shock of Operation on Wounds

Funeral of Pfc. Carl W. Ankney, 20, who died in Fletcher General Hospital, CambridgeRev. W. E. Holmgren, pastor of Zion Lutheran church, will officiate and burial will be in Riverside cemetery.

Private Ankney son of Mrs. Pearl Ankney, Linden street had undergone an operation for shrapnel wounds on the arm and the leg suffered in Europe on Dec. 10,1944, while he was fighting as an infantryman with the U.S. Third Army.

Private Ankney was inducted into service in December 1943 and went overseas in August 1944. He was returned to the United States last April and taken to Fletcher Hospital.
He possessed the Purple Heart, two combat stars, European Theater of Operations ribbon and Combat Infantry Badge.

Surviving are his wife, Mary, whom he was married July 10: his mother, Mrs.Pearl Ankney, Linden street: 4 brothers, Sgt. Howard Ankney, in India, Cpl. Louis Ankney, in camp in Arkansas having returned from European theater and James and Robert Ankney at home: 4 sisters, Mrs. Nellie Drew, Miller City: Mrs. Violet Kiessling, Defiance and Mary and Margaret at home; and grandmother, Mrs. Anna McCulley, 1042 Perry street.
