Poet and owner of the Poetry Bookshop in London, he was first educated in Belgium then at Radley College in England, Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. In 1903 he married Dorothy Elizabeth Browne (1885–1960) but was divorced in 1916. He launched the monthly Poetry Review for the Poetry Society, publishing works of younger poets and critics, later establishing a "Poetry House", comprising a reading room, editorial office and shop as well as lodgings for poets. He befriended T. S. Eliot. He served in WWI. Monro married Alida Klemantaski on 27 March 1920 but she never lived with him, although they spent weekends together in the country. He succumbed to tuberculosis and was cremated at Golders Green Crematorium on 21 March 1932. The Poetry Bookshop closed three years after his death, in 1935.
