Civil War Service. Sergeant, Company E, 156th New York State Volunteer Infantry. Received a severe gunshot wound of right arm at the Battle of Cedar Creek, Va., October 19, 1864. At the time of his wounding, Sergt. Decker was carrying the regimental colors and by his heroism and tenacity, saved the flag from being captured by the enemy.
Brevet 1st Lieutenant by the State of New York, May 2, 1866, for gallant and meritorious service.
