Mrs. Abel, a native of Canton, MS, lived most of her life in Byram (Lake Dockery), where she raised her family. She worked a number of years at the King Edward Hotel and Hudgies Restaurant, as a hostess, cashier and waitress and once was a top seller of Avon in Tennessee. Mrs. Abel had a green thumb and was an avid gardener. She was a charter member of Southern Hills Baptist Church and attended Southside Assembly of God.
She is preceded in death by her parnets, George Washington Thomas and Lottie Fern Harrell Thomas; sons, Skipper and Dennis Abel; grandson, Dan Yates and great granddaughter, Bailey Grace Yates.
Survivors include her daughter, Ava Marilyn (Harry Larue) Yates of Pearl; sister, Myrtis Hunter of Florence; grandchildren Melissa Dearman, Tammy, Dwayne, Beau, Denise, Zachary and Russell and numerous great grandchildren; close family friend, Gerald Duran.
