Joseph Laurie for forty years a well-known resident of Scarboro and Markham Townships passed away in London, Ont., Wednesday Jan. 24, 1940, in his 82nd year, after a year's illness. Mr. and Mrs. Laurie and family moved to London about twenty-five years ago from their farm on the 10th Con. of Markham. Mrs. Laurie passed away after an illness of five years duration a few months ago and Mr. Laurie has been in failing health since.
The funeral took place on Friday June 26, 1940 from the Oatman Funeral Home and interment made in Mount Pleasant cemetery in London, Ont.
Mrs. Robert A. Fleming of Markham and Mrs. David J. Tran of Claremont, are daughters. The other members of the family are Miss Anne Laurie of London; Mrs. James A. Barclay of Belleville; William J. of Kingsville; Col. Jos. H. of Toronto; Herbert R. of London; Gordon E. of Montreal; another son, Steuart H. predeceased his parents eight years ago. Until failing health prevented him, Mr. Laurie looked forward each fall to attending Markham
Fair and renewing old acquaintences and his many friends will be sorry to hear of his passing.
