A longtime resident of the East County, passed away at age 92 after a brief illness. A family-centered person all her life, she became a surrogate parent at the age of 15 and helped her single-parent father, Antonio Mancilla, raise her two younger brothers, Celestino and Antonio and sister Dolores during the Great Depression. In 1935 she married Aurelio Mancera and began raising her own family in the West Chicago and Aurora, Illinois areas over the next 25 years. She and her husband moved to the Lakeside area in 1960 with their infant daughter Mary Ann. She remained a resident of the East County until her passing.
A vibrant, tenacious spirit who loved music, art, sewing, reading and playing cards, Lenore had a passion for knowlege and was an active student in the East County Adult Education system well into her senior years. A matriarch of a large family, she is survived by her sister, Dolores of Aurora, Il., her brother, Antonio of Salem, OR., sons John "Bobby" of Sterling, Il. James and Gerald of Lakeside, daughters lenore of Lakeside and Mary Ann of Encinitas, and 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Her life will be celebrated with a mass at Holy Trinity Church in El Cajon, Ca. on Oct. 1, followed by a private graveside service at El Cajon Cemetery.
