"Mr. Bell, an avid hiker and mountain climber, was returning from a hiking trip to upstate New York when his car veered off Route 149 and hit a tree at about 9 p.m., police said. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Glens Falls Hospital in Glens Falls, N.Y.
"Born in Somerville, Mr. Bell lived all his life in Bedminster. He graduated from Bernards High School in 1986.
"Mr. Bell was a greens keeper at Fiddler's Elbow Country Club in Bedminster for the past two years.
"He hiked the Appalachian Trail that extends from Maine to Georgia and was a member of the Appalachian Trail Club."
The "tree" symbol on his gravestone was selected by his mother and grandmother to symbolize his love of the outdoors.
