J. M. McCULLOUGH DIED IN CHICAGO THIS TUESDAY

Well Known Dentist In Sycamore
Good Citizen And Agreeable Companion
Died Following Operation In University Hospital This Tuesday Forenoon

This community was greatly saddened this Tuesday morning when the news was rapidly passed over the city that Dr. J. M. McCullough, for several years a practicing dentist in Sycamore, a pleasant, companionable man and good citizen, was dying in the University Hospital in Chicago. As stated in The True Republican last Saturday, he had not been well for the last year or two and last summer while in Colorado with his wife, he broke a rib while riding horse back.

In the hospital last week an operation was performed and the rib and a tumor removed. The operation was successful, but the patient, in his weakened condition, failed steadily. Dr. McCullough died at 11:15 o clock this Tuesday morning. The funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o clock this Wednesday afternoon at 7066 North Clark Street, Chicago. A number of friends from Sycamore will be present. The remains will be taken on Thursday to his former home at Pontiac, Ill., for interment. Dr. McCullough was active as a member of the Masonic and Royal Arcanum fraternities.

LIFE AND CHARACTER OF LATE DR. J. M. McCULLOUGH

Highly Esteemed Citizen of Sycamore Who Died on October 31—Funeral Services Were Held in Chicago Last Wednesday, and Interment Was at Pontiac, Illinois.

In the death of Dr. J. M. McCullough, Sycamore loses one of her public-spirited, kind hearted citizens; the dental profession a conscientious and faithful workman, and the Masonic lodge and the Royal Arcanum a true brother who embodied in his life the helpful principles of those orders.

J. M. McCullough was born in Pennsylvania on September 8, 1872. When he was old enough to face the problems of the industrial world and assume the responsibility of living his own life, he came west and accepted a position in Pontiac, Ill. There he met Miss May Parke, to whom he was married in 1906. After a short time in Chicago the happy couple, with the vigor of youth in their hearts, cast anchor in the Sycamore harbor of Life's sea.

Dr. and Mrs. McCullough had resided in Sycamore about ten years, during which time both had made many friends. Few, indeed, of his most intimate friends knew the sufferings he was enduring for many months last past while patiently performing his labor, and no one realized the seriousness of his condition, until the operation in University hospital revealed the real trouble. The heart lacked the strength and the physical system the vitality to withstand so severe a shock, and death came Tuesday morning, October 31.

Dr. McCullough was a man whom it was a pleasure to know. He stood high in his profession and held the esteem of his fellowmen. He was kindly disposed toward others and wove into the fiber of his being those qualities and characteristics which form the frame work of Christian character. He was broad minded without being egotistic. He maintained righteous standards without showing self-exaltation. He condemned the wrong without growing bitter. He gathered and used the sweets of life to radiate the cheer of hope. And he lived his life in the atmosphere of faith and fidelity, his daily tasks bearing testimony to the fact that his name is written among those who loved their fellow men.

The funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon in Chicago in the beautiful chapel forming a part of the undertaker's rooms at 7066 North Clark Street. Many friends from Sycamore, Aurora, Pontiac, Chicago and Knox, Ind., attended the services in Chicago. On Thursday the body was taken to Pontiac for interment. The Masons of Saunemin, Ill., the doctor's home lodge, conducted the burial service at the grave. Dr. McCullough leaves a widow, two sisters and six brothers to cherish the principles that were sacred to him.
