She and Walter had five children. Elizabeth kept a diary and in1991 it was edited by P. A. M. Taylor into a book, "More Than Common Powers of Perception". She was very good friends with her sister-in-law Elizabeth Dwight Cabot, wife of Walter's brother J. Elliot.

Cabot was involved in running the Home for Aged Colored Women in Boston, as well as the Children's Aid Society and the Woman's Education Association.

She was also a member of the Federal Street Unitarian Church in Boston (the congregation continues at the Arlington Street Church), where she taught Sunday school.
