Richard lived in Mexico, Missouri, married Mary Elizabeth Dowling, and they started their family in St. Louis, Missouri, where The Dowling Family lived. He was a printer there. By 1900, Richard, Mary, and their children moved to Omaha, NE, and Richard worked at the Bemis Bag Company. Mary died in 1907. Unfortunately, due to a tragic accident, he fell down the stairs while living with his son's family (Charles Dobyns) in Sioux City, Iowa, and died from a skull fracture at St. Vincent's Hospital.
