Son of Oscar and Marie (Bergsli) Skotdal. Brother to Paul and Abraham Skotdal. He married Joyce Elaine Titterud on November 7, 1975 in Seattle, King County, Washington. He served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960, stationed in occupied Berlin. Following military service he worked as a mail handler for the United States Postal Service for 42 years.
