Fred Goulding, 80, died at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis on Wednesday of last week. He had been ill for about four and a half years with a heart condition and hardening of the arteries.
Mr Goulding entered the Community Hospital in this village on October 9, and on the 18th he was taken to the Veterans hospital at Fort Snelling.
Fred Goulding was the son of John and Abigail Goulding. He was born in Princeton on August 15, 1876. With exception of about 20 years, he spent his entire life in this village.
Fred Goulding enlisted in the United States army during the Spanish-American war. He was one of the three surviving members of Company M of the Third regiment. The other two are Sewel Hamilton, of Princeton, and Ernest Byers, of Hope, Idaho.
After Mr. Goulding received his honorable discharge from the army, he assisted his father in conducting an abstract office. Fred Goulding was a man of integrity and generous to a fault.
On November 15, 1917, Mr Goulding was married to Hazel Adele Rean of this village. He was the last surviving member of the John Goulding Family. Two sisters, Mrs. Mannie Goss (Charlotte) and Mrs. Chas. Dickey (Belle), and one brother Frank, preceded him in death.
Services were conducted at the Kaun Funeral home by Rev. A.G. Hubbard on Saturday. Andrew Hellzen sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied by Mrs. Harold Fiebing. Pallbearers were Bert Mark, Ben Hartman, Elmer Wahl, Ves Seifert, G. Diedrich and Earl Edmonds. Burial was in Oak Knoll Cemetery.
Surviving Mr. Goulding are his wife and a number of other relatives. Among those attending the services were: Mr and Mrs Warren Goss and Sam, Mr and Mrs Wallace Goss and Charlie, and Mrs Ward Goss, of Cass Lake; Mrs Vernon Smith and Mr and Mrs Eugene Miller of Anoka; and Edw. Rean of Minneapolis.
