Ida May Collins

Ida May (Ritz) Collins of Springfield, OR, died peacefully at home on September 1, 2013 from complications of congestive heart failure.

Ida lived a full life and is now with her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Her funeral will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., September 7, 2013, at Springfield Memorial Funeral Home, 7305 Main Street. A public viewing will be held Thursday from 5-7 p.m. Pastors Buddy Bradley and John Alban will officiate. A meal will follow the service at Life Church at Wayside, 5297 "B" Street in Springfield.

Ida was born June 1, 1913 in Neosho County, KS to W. B. and Martha (Cotton) Ritz. She went to Mable Park Rural, a one-room schoolhouse, for her education.

On May 4, 1931, at Girard, KS she married Lloyd E. Collins. Over the years, she worked side by side with her husband in service stations in KS, CO and OR. She also helped him on their ranch or farm. They were married 61 years.

She loved helping others. Her church was very important to her and she willingly gave rides to children needing a way to Sunday School and Church. She was always available to pray for others regarding their needs.

She was an outstanding cook. To this day her family and friends recall delightful meals at her home; dishes most often asked for were: beef & noodles, scalloped cabbage, biscuits and gravy or homemade waffle breakfasts. Other hobbies included gardening, quilting, sewing, crocheting, and knitting. She knit sweaters for children in third-world countries and participated with Samaritan's Purse in "Operation Christmas Child" filling shoeboxes with toiletries, school supplies, a toy and treats. After 80 years of age, she travel to England, Ireland, Australia, Italy, Israel, and Russia enjoying good health into her late 90's.

Survivors include her daughters; Marjorie Simpson of Springfield, OR and Treeca Adams of Springfield, OR as well as seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and four great, great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, ten siblings, one daughter, one son and one grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan's Purse. Arrangements entrusted to Springfield Memorial Funeral Home.
