DR. HIRAM HERRIDON
One of the oldest practicing physicians in this county, Dr. Hiram Herridon of Staatsburg died Wednesday night at the Northern Dutchess Health Center. He was 76 years old and had been practicing in Staatsburg and this area for about 50 years.
Dr. Herridon was brought to the local hospital by ambulance Tuesday afternoon. His car had run off the road at Pleasant Plains and he had come to Rhinebeck to get it towed from a field. Back at the scene, he collapsed. He had attended a meeting at the Rhinebeck Savings Bank earlier the same afternoon.
He was born in Corinth, N.Y. on Aug. 26, 1880, the son of Alonzo and Mary Holden Herridon. He graduated from the University of Vermont in 1906 and practiced medicine in Chatham for a short time before moving to Staatsburg. He married Miss Lillian Goss in 1909 and she died in 1953. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Charles L. Pack of White River Junction, Vt., and Mrs. George E. Webster of Fountainville, Pa. and six grandchildren.
Dr. Herridon was a member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Staatsburg and a vestryman. He was a staff doctor at the Northern Dutchess Health Center here and at St. Francis and Vassar Hospitals in Poughkeepsie. He had been a trustee of the Rhinebeck Savings Bank since 1932. He held membership in Rhinebeck Lodge, No. 432, F. and A. M., the Dutchess County Medical Society, the Staatsburg Rod and Gun Club and Dinsmore Hose Co. of Staatsburg.
Funeral services will be conducted in St. Margaret's Church at 10:30 o'clock Monday morning by Rev. Herbert J. Goodrich, rector. Interment will be in the Rhinebeck cemetery. Friends may call at the Dapson Funeral Home in Rhinebeck Sunday from 3 to 4:30 and from 7 to 9 p.m.

Having inherited the Family Bible of James Blowers Gray and his second wife Julia Ann Blowers I've been trying to make sense of the records and hand-written notes found therein. The Bible was a gift of Ira "Adirondack Ike" Gray, their son, who was a cousin to my cousin. James Blowers Gray's first wife was Elisabeth Deming, and one of their children was Jennie L. Gray.

Jennie was married three times---first to Ransom Mallory Hawkins, second as the second wife of Alonzo Herridon on 9 Aug 1900 at Fair Haven, Rutland County, Vermont. The marriage record found on Ancestry.com, Vermont, Vital Records, 1720-1908 indicates that she was a widow and Alonzo was divorced. Alonzo's first wife was Mary Holden. She married second William S. Guiles on 15 Feb 1897 at Corinth, Saratoga County, New York, according to New York, State Marriage Index, 1881-1967 found on Ancestry. They were divorced before 5 Jun 1900 when William was living at Corinth according to the 1900 US Federal Census. I've so far been unable to trace Mary after their marriage. Alonzo and Mary were the parents of Dr. Hiram Herridon.
