Hjalmer Donald Hansen was born on March 27, 1922 in Clearbrook, Minnesota to parents Hans and Thora (Thompson) Hansen. He grew up in Clearbrook, Minnesota where his family activities centered around home, church and the local Beard School. Don once said, "I thank God for our parents and family in their love and sacrifices for one another."
He was married to Ione Brekke August 3, 1952. After their marriage, they were Caretakers of the Hauge Memorial Home before moving to Bloomington where most of the years were spent raising their children, and he was the Business Administrator and Caretaker of AFLC Bible School and Seminary in Minneapolis. He retired after many years at the school.
Don was united in marriage to Mildred Brekke on December 26, 1994 at Gosen Lutheran Church near Winger, Minnesota. They lived on the farm south of Erskine, Minnesota. Then they lived in Fosston for three years before moving to McIntosh, Minnesota for two years. In December of 2012, Don moved into Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine and Mildred to the Country Place, also in Erskine.
He enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, bird watching and the outdoors at the farm. He was a gifted mechanical and problem solver which he learned growing up on the farm when they did not have much to work with. He was a devoted Son, Brother, Husband and Father. He was a faithful Christian, devoted to God and Man, faithfully praying for family and friends.
Don passed away on Monday, January 28, 2013 at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center at the age of 90 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Erskine; four children, Mark (Cynde) Hansen of Eagan, MN, Kathe Hansen of Minneapolis, Keith Hansen of Minneapolis, and Carol (Robert) Addington of Cocoa Beach, FL; one step-son, James (Lauree) Brekke of Fargo, ND; six grandchildren; three step grandchildren; one brother, Rodney Hansen of Clearbrook, MN; one sister, Anne Quarnstrom of Minneapolis; two sisters-in-law, Faye Hansen of Chisago City, MN, and Eileen Hansen of Clearbrook, MN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ione; one son, Paul Hansen; two sisters, Grace Johnson and Ruth Frick; and three brothers, Oberon, Theodore, and Hartvig Hansen.
