W.S. Gleason M.D., was born at Sag Harbor, Long Island, New York. He received his academic education Williston Seminary, East Hampton, Massachusetts at Amherst College. In September 1883, he began his medical education at the University Medical College, New York, under the preceptorship of Prof. William Thomson. He pursued a thorough course of studies at this institution and graduated with honors. After a term of practical hospital work, Dr. Gleason assumed the active duties of his profession by locating in Newburgh,Orange Co., New York, where he acquired a lucrative practice.
He was the son of the Rev. W.H. Gleason D.D. and was for several years pastor of the American Reformed Church.
In 1888 Dr. Gleason was married to Grace Hoysradt, daughter of Senator J. W. Hoysradt of Hudson, New York.
