Paul Stickney Poole, age 81 of Milan, TN, passed away Wednesday morning, September 4, 2013 at his home in Milan.

The son of the late Edward J. Poole, Sr. and the late Camille Gaiennie Poole, Paul was born July 23, 1932, in Jackson, TN where he spent his early years.

Paul graduated from Jackson High School. He then attended Lambuth College in Jackson. From Jackson, Paul moved to Brownsville, TN where he met and married Hilda Sellari of Brownsville. In 1974, Paul and Hilda moved their young family to Milan, where he owned and operated the Milan Insurance Agency.

Paul was committed to his church and church community. In the 1980s, he helped guide a small congregation of Catholics meeting above a downtown hardware store to having their own permanent parish, St. Matthew Catholic Church. Paul continued his work with his church until his health declined, serving as a lector and an Extra-Ordinary minister of the Eucharist. He taught religious education courses at St. Matthew and Sacred Heart Parish in Humboldt for 35 years. Paul was a member of the fraternal order of the Knights of Columbus.

Paul's impact on his community reached further than his church. Paul was elected and served as an alderman for the City of Milan. He also served as president of the Milan Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce. He volunteered and served on the Board of Director's at the Mustard Seed, which redistributes in-kind donations to the community's needy residents. Prior to his failing health, Paul, sensing that too many Milan residents were unable to meet their nutritional needs, was working on developing a program to feed hot meals to the disadvantaged. An avid reader himself, Paul served as a Book Buddy to students in the Milan Special School District for a number of years.

Paul was the brother of the late Catherine Poole Sartain ( late Pete) of Memphis,TN, the late Camille Poole Fahel ( late Joe) of Peoria, Il.; the late Edward J. Poole (Jane) of Birmingham, AL; the late Rosemary Poole of Jackson, TN; the late Patricia Anne Poole of Jackson, TN; the late Jean Poole Rockenhaus (late Rocky); of Subiaco, AR; the late Adele Teresa Poole (Sister Mary Camille, O.P. of Nashville, TN.; the late Merle Frances Poole of Jackson, TN. Paul is the brother of Margaret Poole Vucina (late Steve) residing in Jackson, TN.
