Funeral service for Doris Alene Buffkin, 73, of Hartselle, will be Monday, September 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Oscar Gray, Rev. Shane Britt, and Rev. Kenneth White officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Valhermoso Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Buffkin, who died Thursday, September 5, 2013, at Decatur Morgan Hospital, was born December 2, 1939, in Tuscaloosa County to Oscar Helms and Doris Mildred Ryan Helms. She was preceded in in death by her sister, Martha Depew; and one stepson, Jacke Buffkin.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Buffkin; two sons, Gregory Thomas of Nashville, Tenn., and Chris Helms of Hartselle; three stepsons, Roger Buffkin and Glenn Buffkin, both of Stuttgart, Ark., and Mickey Buffkin of Pine Bluff, Ark.; two brothers, James Oscar Helms of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., and Fred Helms of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Dottie Swann of Atlanta, Ga., Rebecca Wasson of Hannibal, Mo., and Nancy Hart of Minor Hill, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be family.
