Rea Frederick Ottinger, Sr., 75, of Cross, SC, a retired diver for the US Navy, died Tuesday afternoon at his residence.

A celebration of his life will be held 2:00 PM Sunday afternoon, September 8, 2013, in the Chapel of Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner, with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Charleston Cancer Center, 2910 Tricom St., Charleston, SC, 29406, Attn: Dr. Yanis Bellil, or to Embrace Hospice, 3640-A Ashley Phosphate Rd., Charleston, SC 29418.

Mr. Ottinger was born May 25, 1938, in Pennsgrove, NJ, a son of Frederick John Ottinger and Janie Mae Porter Ottinger. He was a veteran of Vietnam and a member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church. He was a former volunteer at the Cross Fire Department, and he enjoyed fishing and playing music. Mr. Ottinger was Past Master of Goose Creek Lodge #401 AFM, a Shriner, a member of the Scottish Rite, and a member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by four brothers, John Ottinger, Fred Ottinger, Jim Ottinger, and Paul Ottinger.

Surviving are, his wife, Susie Miles Ottinger; three daughters, Sue L. Frierson of Williston, Donna G. Purvis and her husband, James, of Little Mountain, and Cindy F. Miller of Gaston; four sons, Rea F. Ottinger, Jr., and his wife, Carol, of Pamplico, Stephen R. Ottinger and his wife, Lorraine, of Charleston, Russell L. Sharpe, Jr., and his wife, Sandy, of Gaston, and Marty L. Sharpe, Sr., of Swansea; four sisters, Celine Spencer, and her husband, Howard, Amy Morris and her husband, Jeff, Mary Ottinger, and Judy Jeffers and her husband, Kenny; seven brothers, Bob Ottinger and his wife, Yoki, Pat Ottinger and his wife, Liz, Henry Ottinger, and his wife, Debbie, Tom Ottinger and his wife, Ruth, Mark Ottinger, and his wife, Cindy, Chuck Ottinger and his wife, Theresa, Luke Ottinger and his wife, Patty, and Michael Ottinger; eighteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
