Etta Mae Reeves was born on March 24, 1930 in Royce, MS. At an early age the family relocated to Lucedale, MS. She was the second child born to the union of Alfonso and Mary Sargent. On September 2, 2013 this wonderful woman peacefully entered into eternity with her devoted daughter and son by her side.

She attended school in Lucedale during her early years. There was not a high school for African American children in Lucedale when she grew up. Parents who wanted their children to complete high school let the children move to a city where high schools were available. Etta Mae graduated from Oak Park High School in Laurel, MS.

At an early age, she confessed Christ and was baptized and became a member of Lily Grove Baptist Church where she participated in various church activities. Throughout her life, she was a committed member of Lily Grove Baptist Church; however, she often visited other churches throughout the community.

She loved God and would often say that God had been so good to her and she loved her family. She was a dedicated mother to her three children and since the baby was handicapped, she had a special and unique place in her heart for Pooh. Pooh preceded her in death.

Her special times were when all of the brothers, sisters, cousins and their families would gather for various celebrations. There was always much laughing, talking and eating. Even though these times were family gatherings, she included various community members. She had a good relationship and many young people in the community. They enjoyed visiting and talking with her.

Etta was an extraordinary woman who impacted the lives of many people with her unselfish love for others. She leaves to cherish her memories, husband: Kerney Reeves, one daughter: Nettie Reeves, Lucedale, MS; one son: Derrek Reeves, Sr. (Sammie), Wilmer, AL; three grandchildren: Terri Street (Christopher), Hattiesburg, MS; Sophie Locke, Mobile, AL, Derrek Reeves, Jr., Wilmer, AL; one granddaughter: Iyanna S. Staten, Mobile, AL; a special son: Joseph Lawrence, Lucedale, MS; two sisters: Rosie Marie Sargent and Jeanette Sargent, Lucedale, MS; five brothers: Raleigh Sargent, Lucedale, MS; Eugene Sargent (Lois), Memphis, TN; Hugh Sargent (Rosie), Buffalo, NY; Joseph Sargent (Jayne), Jackson, MS; Stanley Earl Sargent (Renee), Lucedale, MS; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be at Lily Grove Baptist Church in Lucedale, MS from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 7, 2013. Funeral Services will be from the Church starting at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. E. Eatmon officiating. Interment will be in Lily Grove Cemetery, Lucedale, MS.
